That comical debacle cemented my belief in the value of professional dog walkers. So since then, I’ve become well-acquainted with the city’s elite dog walkers, sampling their services and collecting valuable feedback from other pet patrons.

Pet Owner Feedback: We looked for reviews and talked to various pet owners to make sure we only choose dog walkers who prioritise the dogs’ happiness. 

1. Becky’s Dog Walking

Becky’s Dog Walking offers a trusted, reliable, and flexible dog walking service, backed by over 10 years of experience. Becky, the founder, is a highly skilled veterinary nurse with over 30 years in the field.

Her extensive background spans emergency and surgical care, Border Security Dog Training, and Vet Pharma. Becky holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physiology and Microbiology from the University of Auckland and was AMTRA qualified in the UK, allowing her to prescribe medications and administer vaccines. Her deep understanding of dog behavior and health forms the foundation of the service.

A standout feature of Becky’s Dog Walking is the “Ask Becky” service, where clients can consult Becky for advice on their dog’s health, sometimes saving a trip to the vet. The team also offers a Parasite Treatment Management Program and provides free allergen-sensitive washes for dogs when needed, ensuring pets stay healthy and well cared for.

Their Adventure Pack Walks take place on a private 11-acre farm, specially designed for dogs. It features custom fencing, paddocks, a lake, a forest, and the only 1.5-acre “zoomie” paddock in the area. With constantly evolving trails, this off-lead experience keeps dogs both mentally and physically stimulated. The farm is regularly mowed to minimize grass seeds and pollen, reducing allergens for sensitive dogs.

With a low handler-to-dog ratio, Becky’s team ensures personalized attention on each 2.5 to 3.5-hour session. The handler-to-dog ratios may vary depending on the run, but the team consistently maintains a focus on safety and individualized care. Their vehicles are also designed for dogs, equipped with high air turnover vents, air conditioning, and individual crates that are bleached weekly for optimal hygiene.

Becky’s Dog Walking is known for being exceptionally reliable and flexible. Paws On Tour offers two main types of walks: the Scratch n Sniff Adventure Walk and the Adrenaline Junky Adventure Walk. 

The former is a half-day adventure, perfect for dogs who love to explore Auckland’s beaches and bushes for around two hours. The latter is an all-day affair, allowing your dog to fully immerse in nature.

What sets Paws on Tour apart is their personalised approach. They take the time to get to know your dog’s personality, likes, and dislikes, tailoring each walk to fit individual needs. 

The handlers are both experienced and passionate, ensuring each dog gets the exercise and socialisation they need.

What some didn’t like, however, was the inconsistency in communication. There were times when many found it difficult to get updates on their dog’s walk.

One of the standout features is Jo’s ability to handle dogs with healthcare needs. Her background ensures that every dog, whether energetic or needing extra care, receives the attention they require. 

Feedback from other pet owners highlighted the joy their dogs exhibited after each outing. Many appreciated the discounted rates for recurring weekly bookings, making it an affordable option for ongoing care.

One downside of Dash Dogs is the limited availability of slots. Their popularity means it’s sometimes challenging to secure a booking, especially for last-minute plans. 

While this speaks to their high demand and excellent service quality, it can be a bit frustrating if you need a dog walker on short notice.

This doggy paradise provides an ideal setting for dogs to explore and socialise. The team at Hipster Dogs carefully considers each dog’s temperament and needs when organising walks, ensuring a personalised experience.

Services include pick-up and drop-off, water, treats, and even a hose down and towel dry if needed. Positive reinforcement, praise, and plenty of cuddles are part of the package, making each walk a delightful experience for the dogs.

Feedback from other dog owners has also been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the attentive and caring nature of the handlers. 

However, there were some owners who weren’t very happy with the high dog-to-handler ratio. They mention being concerned over the amount of individual attention their pets receive.

Other dog owners found their strict adherence to their schedule frustrating, particularly when needing flexibility for drop-off and pick-up times.

5. Sticks & Bones – Dog Walking Services

Sticks & Bones is one of Auckland’s most established dog-walking services, boasting over ten years of combined team experience. They offer two main types of walks: Hood Walks and Urban Adventure Walks. 

Hood Walks are one-on-one sessions in your local neighbourhood, perfect for dogs and puppies who need a more tailored approach. Urban Adventure Walks, on the other hand, are small group outings (no more than four dogs) to some of Auckland’s best parks, bush walks, and beaches. 

What makes Sticks & Bones stand out is their professional approach. Each handler undergoes a rigorous training program, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle any situation. 

I was particularly impressed with Amanda, a handler known for her talent with dogs needing extra attention. Fellow dog owners also raved about the positive changes in their pets’ behaviour and overall happiness.

Many dog owners particularly liked the small group settings during the Urban Adventure Walks, as it allowed for personalised attention and better socialisation for their pets. 

However, I find their services to be slightly more expensive compared to other companies, which could be a deterrent for those on a tight budget.

Many particularly appreciated City Pets Canine Adventures’ structured and attentive approach. They often raved about the well-organised pack management, which ensured their dogs were grouped appropriately based on temperament and energy levels.

However, there were occasional concerns about the availability of slots. Given the high demand, securing a spot, especially for last-minute plans, could sometimes be difficult.
