How We Chose the Best Paint Stores in Auckland
1. Resene ColorShop
We recently stopped by Resene ColorShop, and honestly, we were pretty blown away by their paint selection. Their waterborne paints are low in VOCs, making them safer for indoor use.
When we checked out their indoor paints, we were impressed by the finish options. They have matte, low-sheen, and high-gloss paint—covering every preference!
They also sell wallpapers and specialty finishes, making it a one-stop shop for anyone looking to give their place a fresh new look.
We also loved their focus on sustainability, especially their Resene CoolColour that’s known to help keep homes cooler. If you’re into DIY, their workshops are fun and useful for learning new skills.
During our visit, we got to try their color match, too. They use these high-tech paint mixers that nail the exact shade we want.
That being said, we did hear from another customer that their experience wasn’t as smooth. Apparently, the staff helping them wasn’t as knowledgeable about their offerings, which was a bit frustrating for them.

What we really loved about Wairau Paint Centre is how personal they get with their service. They sat down with us for a one-on-one consultation and helped us nail down the exact paint we needed for our project.
You can tell they’ve been at it for over 30 years because they made the whole process feel super easy. They even shared a few pro tips on making the paint last longer and getting that smooth, flawless finish.
And the range? It’s massive! Beyond just your regular decorative paints, they’ve got automotive, marine, and a bunch of other specialized options.
They’ve also got all the painting supplies you could need, so no hopping around to different stores.
But it’s not all sunshine—one customer we chatted with mentioned that the staff didn’t seem too keen on helping with color matching when he visited. Although we didn’t experience this personally, it’s still worth mentioning.

We were really impressed with their specialty products that cater to everyone. While we were in the store, we encountered various customers. Some were DIY enthusiasts sprucing up their spaces, while others were contractors working on big projects.
Their product range is also pretty impressive. They sell interior or exterior paints, roof coatings, and more!
Plus, we loved that they offer fair prices, so you can stock up without emptying your wallet.
And the cherry on top? They provide free delivery across New Zealand, making it super convenient to have everything delivered right to your door.
That said, some customers did have a few complaints about the paint quality. One customer, in particular, complained about how their once-white fence ended up looking a bit yellow after using the store’s paint.
