If you’re looking to burn some calories but the thought of working out makes you want to curl up with a cup of tea, you should definitely give cycling a shot! It’s a fun way to get moving while exploring new places. Talk about a holistic lifestyle, right?

Now, to kick off your cycling journey, you’ll need a bike. Finding a good bike can be overwhelming at first, but don’t sweat it!

My team and I checked out some awesome bicycle shops in Auckland, and we can’t wait to share our top picks with you. Trust me, a couple of them got us so excited that we couldn’t resist buying our own bikes!

How much do bicycles cost in Auckland?

In Auckland, you can find budget bikes ranging from $190 to $520, mid-range bikes from $520 to $1,290, and high-end options starting at $1,290. Prices can change based on the type and brand of bike you’re looking at.

How We Chose The Best Bicycle Shops in Auckland

Quality: We checked if the bikes and gear feel solid and built to last. A good shop should have stuff you can trust so you’re ready to ride without worrying about breakdowns.
Product Selection: A great shop should offer a solid mix. We picked those that offer road bikes, mountain bikes, and even a comfy cruiser.
Customer Service: Awesome service is key! We looked for shops that have friendly staff who are ready to help you out without being pushy.
Pricing: We also evaluated shops that have fair prices and were upfront about any deals or discounts.

Sunday: 10 AM - 4 PM

One of the best things about Evo Cycles Britomart is how easy it is to get there—it’s right in the heart of the CBD, so it’s no hassle to drop by.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a great selection of bikes and accessories. But the real standout was the customer service. After we mentioned that we live in the city, the staff recommended some city bikes tailored to our needs.

Whether you’re a daily commuter or just getting into cycling, they give great advice tailored to urban riding.

Plus, they were super friendly. This made the whole experience feel much more personal compared to your average shop.

If you’d rather shop from home, their online setup is just as smooth. A few of our teammates couldn’t make it to the store, so they browsed the website instead, and it was easy to use. You can even order online and pick up in-store—talk about convenience!

The only downside? Some of the popular items we saw online were out of stock when we visited the store. So, it’s worth checking availability ahead of time if you’ve got your eye on something specific.

Pros

  • Accessible location
  • Wide range of products
  • Excellent customer service
  • Online shopping convenience

Cons

  • Stock availability

I appreciate the thorough information they always give to me

“Thanks, Evo Cycles for servicing my bicycle today and being understanding. I appreciate the thorough information I received when I picked it up. It is running so smooth and feels like a new bike.”

Staff was super friendly and understood my needs

“Thank you! I was having issues with my bike that were really putting a damper on riding. After bringing it in for a service and some fresh tires it’s like riding an entirely different bike. The staff member I dealt with was super friendly and clearly understood the problems I was describing. Service was quick and everything came out cheaper than expected at the end. Will definitely be bringing my bike back here for any work in the future.”

Benny’s Bike Shop isn’t your average bike store—it’s for true cycling enthusiasts.

Benny, the owner and former pro cyclist, really knows his stuff. Many former customers praised him for being thorough during bike fittings. He makes sure everything is perfect for the customer’s comfort and performance.

We also noticed how the shop doesn’t stock the usual off-the-shelf bikes. Instead, Benny focuses on boutique brands like Cannondale, Salsa, and Marin.

If you’re into gravel biking or bike packing, you’ll love the range of hard-to-find parts and accessories.

They also do custom builds with brands like Ritchey and Surly. Plus, they’ve got a solid reputation for vintage bike restorations.

But if you’re after something more affordable or mainstream, this place might not be for you—Benny’s all about quality and customization.

Another thing to watch out for is communication. I’ve heard from other customers that they experienced delays in getting responses to emails and calls.

Pros

  • Expertise
  • Bike fitting
  • Boutique brands
  • Custom builds
  • Gravel biking selection
  • Bike packing gear selection
  • Offers vintage restoration service

Cons

  • Expensive bikes
  • Late response to emails and calls

Benny made time for me and got me much better situated on my bike

“Benny is the king of cycling in Auckland… His tidy shop is in a cute old building in the city, and it usually bustling at all hours. Folks schedule fittings with him weeks in advance, but I was passing through town– a disorganized traveller, and Benny made time for me and got me much better situated on my bike. My tuckus was greatly improved riding South from Auckland. Five stars, can’t cycle with Auckland without a visit to Benny’s.”

He gave me a great bike fit and tuning, plus tons of advice!

“Benny really knows his stuff. He not only gave me a great bike fit and bike tuning but has so much information/ advice to share and teach regarding bike touring. Will 100% return here for all my bike needs again and again.”

During our visit to CYCO, we got to see a precise bike fitting in action for one of our undercover researchers. It really made a huge difference in comfort and performance.

The staff here is super knowledgeable and always eager to help us find the perfect bike or accessory. Plus, they’ve got a solid range of gear and components, so you can pick up everything you need in one trip.

Their bike selection is also impressive. They offer road bikes for speed, mountain bikes for tackling tough trails, and even touring bikes for those long rides.

One cool thing we noticed was how customers were swapping stories and sharing tips with each other—it really feels like a little community hub! It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to those shops that are all about the sales pitch.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say the only downside is that their prices can be a bit higher than other local shops.

Pros

  • Impressive bike selection
  • Bike fitting
  • Knowledgeable staff
  • Community vibe
  • Wide range of accessories

Cons

  • Higher prices

Great people, prompt quality service, competitive pricing

“Great people, prompt quality service, competitive pricing, top-of-the-line bikes and gear.

Last year I had a retro rusted pos specialized hardtail serviced, was pleasantly surprised with the efficiency and cost of repairs. This year was in need of a road bike, again the service was impeccable, sizing check to order the right frame size, custom fitting, and the gear needed to get pedaling. It rides mint straight out of the box and the fit is spot on. Could not be happier with my Trek Emonda. Thank you, Darren and the Cyco team.”

Best Bike service I’ve come across in Auckland

“I highly rate The team at Cyco! Best Bike service I’ve come across in Auckland. I have dealt with both Jakob and Cosmo who are both knowledgeable and happily answer my questions. Prompt and quality service, competitive pricing. My bike always comes back 100 times better. I have both my mountain bike and roadie serviced here. 5/5”

99 Bikes has an impressive selection. They’ve got everything from road bikes and mountain bikes to some sweet BMX options. But it seems like the e-bikes are always flying off the shelves—they’re super popular.

What really caught our attention was the pricing. We’ve checked out a bunch of places around Auckland, and they definitely have some of the most competitive prices out there.

The staff were awesome, too. They were friendly and genuinely helpful, ready to assist without being pushy.

Another cool thing is their workshop services. If you’re someone who likes to keep your bike in tip-top shape, having professional support is a total game changer.

Just a heads-up—some customers we talked to mentioned concerns about the quality of parts on a few lower-end models. It’s something to keep in mind if you’re considering those options since safety and performance are super important.

Pros

  • Wide selection
  • Competitive pricing
  • Friendly and helpful staff
  • Offers workshop services

Cons

  • Quality concerns on lower-end models

I’ve been purchasing bikes and parts from this shop for 18 years

“Very good client service, totally recommended! I had an issue with a Jetblack fluid trainer. Geoff took on the challenge and sorted out my problem in a very short timeframe. I picked up a replacement unit and Jan was very friendly and helpful. I’ve been purchasing bikes and parts from this shop for 18 years even though the owners and bike shop names have changed over the years. I’m looking forward to supporting 99 Bikes Manukau now. Thanks again for the great help! Cheers”

Got a massive discount for two bikes

“Very accommodating and excellent customer service. The Filipino guy who assembled my bike is fantastic! He’s very polite and always smiles. Also, his other colleagues were very friendly and supportive. The price for two bikes is affordable – a massive discount from its original price. Keep up the good work and keep that patience although it’s always a tiring job for you guys”

If you’re on the hunt for an electric bike shop in Auckland, you’ve got to check out Electrify NZ! When we visited, we loved how they focused exclusively on e-bikes, which gives the place a really specialized vibe.

They’ve got a unique selection of bikes. I even spotted some tandem bikes for those wanting to hit the road with a buddy—how cool is that?

Plus, their folding bikes are a great option if you’re tight on space!

One thing that really stood out to me was the quality of their offerings. They partner with some solid brands, so you know you’re getting something reliable. Most of their bikes have battery options ranging from 400Wh to 630Wh, depending on how far you want to go.

We also love how you can customize your bike with accessories to really make it your own!

Just a little heads-up, though: I’ve heard from some customers that the response time for repairs and inquiries can be a bit slower than you might hope.

Pros

  • Specialized focus on e-bikes
  • Unique selection
  • Quality brands
  • Battery options
  • Customization

Cons

  • Slow response time
  • Limited traditional bike options

Exceptional bikes and exceptional service

“Exceptional bikes. Exceptional/caring service. Bought two bikes from these guys now. The team was really good following a road accident, helping me manage my claim through my insurer, AA Insurance (also brilliant). Would highly recommend it.”

Have been happy with my bike because of them

“Electrify has a good selection of bikes and knowledgeable staff. Have been happy with my bike overall. They have also improved their systems and processes, so at my last service I was well informed both before and during.”
