The 5 Best Cosmetic Dentists in Wellington for Quality, Care, and Results

  • Qualifications and Experience: We looked into the credentials, professional affiliations, and years of experience of dentists at every clinic. Those with proven training and a good history of successful treatments won our favour.
  • Range of Services: Our team considered whether the clinic offered a comprehensive range of cosmetic products (whitening, veneers, etc.). We also looked into any specialisations that set the clinic apart.
  • Consultation Process: The first meeting matters – we examined how initial consultations were handled, including clarity of communication and transparency of options. We gave credits to clinics that explained procedures, timelines, and pricing thoroughly.
  • Value for Money: While cosmetic dentistry can be pricey, we prioritised clinics that balanced cost with quality service. In line with this, we looked into payment options, as well as discounts per procedure.

Have you ever dodged a photo because of a chipped front tooth or avoided smiling at a friend because your smile is starting to show coffee stains? Trust us, we know exactly how that feels.

Having a million-dollar smile is everybody’s dream, but the work comes with a million-dollar price tag too (not really, but it feels like it!). With so much at stake, you could only trust the best cosmetic dentists in Wellington to do the job.

If you want to start flashing your smile on Cuba Street, here are the only professionals to trust.

How much does it cost to see a cosmetic dentist in Wellington?

The cost of seeing a cosmetic dentist in Wellington ranges from $95 to $130 for new patient consultations. Procedures can cost $180 to $300 for composite fillings, and $1,765 to $2,350 per tooth for porcelain veneers. Other cost considerations include X-rays and any follow-up procedures.

OPERATING HOURSMonday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Saturday: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Looking into Wellington Dentists, we were pleased to find out that they offer quality services at fair rates. Using real-case results, we saw how natural-looking their composite veneers were at only $750 per tooth.

Additionally, previous clients loved how discreet the design was for their teeth straightening option. While they don’t currently offer porcelain veneers or braces, they do provide porcelain onlays, crowns, and composite bridges.

The best thing about all of these is the prices, particularly with their student discounts. Check-ups only cost $40 with X-rays, and they can even enjoy up to $1,000 in free dental care per year.

The follow-ups just feel a little too rocky for what we want, with clients experiencing extremely long wait times. This is the case for more complex cases, though, so small cosmetic procedures may feel a lot more seamless.

Pros

  • Specialises in composite veneers
  • Good value for money
  • 20 years of experience with white fillings
  • Standard and mini-implant options available
  • Solid student discounts and perks
  • Flexible denture options
  • Easy online booking

Cons

  • Reports of poor follow-up communication
  • Long wait times for follow-up procedures

Very satisfied

“My first dental hygienist experience in NZ went very well with them. Great location and I could find an appointment at a convenient time. I was very satisfied with my hygienist who did the job very well without much discomfort. They were also very punctual with the timings.”

Knowledgeable and thorough

“I went to see Courtney for a hygienist appointment after seeing other reviews and it was a positive experience. She was knowledgeable and very thorough. She also provided great detail about my oral health, which I’ve never experienced before and thought that was really helpful to know. The team at Wellington Dentists are very accommodating as well and I’ll definitely be going back for all my dental needs.”

Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Supreme Dental Concepts won us over with unique offerings. In particular, they specialise in restorative care, where they deal with damage from an accident or general wear and tear.

We also appreciate their transparent policies. For instance, their first professional dental exam comes with a money-back guarantee – something we find useful for first-timers who are still unsure about which clinic to go for.

They also have a five-year limited warranty on crowns and bridges, which is a great reassurance for those going through major dental work.

Their in-office dental plans, flexible financing options, and coverage plans are also major wins. All these make their services more accessible to all. Plus, they offer free consultations (valued at $150 each) for services like Invisalign and Fastbraces.

Downside? We had so much trouble following up with them after the initial consultation – one of our team members wasn’t even able to confirm an appointment. Improvements here would’ve been a major win.

Pros

  • Wide range of cosmetic services
  • Detailed initial SMIL assessment
  • Specialises in smile makeovers
  • Money-back guarantee on first dental exam
  • Five-year warranty on crowns and bridges
  • Free consultations available
  • Offers dental financing and payment plans
    Transparent and competitive rates

Cons

  • Poor follow-up after the initial consultation
  • Slow response after patient inquiries

Makes patients feel comfortable

“Kevin has been fantastic over the last three years. After a terrible experience elsewhere I hadn’t been to the dentist in over 10 years and was a very, very nervous patient. There was no judgement on the issues with my teeth and they simply made a plan of attack to make me feel the most comfortable. Can’t recommend enough.”

Welcoming, clean, and organized

“I had a fantastic experience at Supreme Dental Concepts! The staff was welcoming, and the clinic was clean and organized. Dr. Yang took the time to explain my treatment thoroughly, making me feel comfortable throughout. Their follow-up call after my appointment showed how much they care. I highly recommend Supreme Dental Concepts for anyone seeking a great dental experience!”

Thursday - Friday: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

At City Dentists, what earned our favour the most is their process. For cosmetic solutions, the approach is highly personalised. Treatment plans include detailed mock-ups, wax-ups, and consultations.

They also scored high on accessibility. For starters, their centrally located clinic is close to the Wellington train station as well as bus hubs.

Additionally, the costs are competitive and come with discounts. Students receive a 10% discount on actual treatments, and most can qualify for up to $1,000 of free dental care per year.

It’s also worth noting that staff avoids hard-selling tactics, which we appreciate. And with a clear explanation of times and outcomes, we feel that clients truly get their money’s worth.

The biggest downside, though, is that their billing practice is a bit confusing. While the rates are okay, there are inconsistencies about the pricing once billed. Fortunately, they’re proactive when dealing with these issues.

Pros

  • 100% New Zealand owned and operated
  • Convenient central location
  • Wide range of services
  • Personalised process
  • Solid student discounts
  • Clear client communication

Cons

  • Inconsistent billing process
  • Certain services feel rushed

Amazing and caring people

“I had gone to the same dentist my whole life and they retired. I wanted people I could trust to not upsell me. I’m so glad I found city dentists! Everyone I’ve seen there is amazing and caring. Give me options and the admin staff on the front desk are so lovely!”

The Wellington Dental Practice immediately got our attention with its 90 years of experience. We definitely appreciate their wide range of offerings, including dental veneers, Invisalign, and teeth whitening.

The patient experience here is unlike any other we’ve experienced. The clinic is very calming with generally little noise, and the procedure rooms themselves have overhead TVs for entertainment.

In line with the experience, we also had a seamless time trying their online booking system. Clients even get SMS and email reminders – little touches that we find important, to help patients avoid missing an appointment.

While they may not be the cheapest option in this list, they do offer easy payment options and support for Southern Cross Health insurance members.

Pros

  • Over 90 years of experience
  • Wide range of dental cosmetic services
  • Emergency appointment available
  • Easy online booking system
  • SMS and email reminders
  • Calming office
  • Overhead TVs in surgeries
  • Offers easy payment options
  • Support for Southern Cross Health insurance members

Cons

  • Strict vaccination policies
  • Certain services are pricier

Professional and exceptional care

“I recently visited Dr. Laura for a complex cosmetic dental procedure, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. Laura and Steph make an amazing team, turning what is usually a painstaking process into a smooth and comfortable one. Their professionalism and care were exceptional. Highly recommend!”

Calm, patient, and playful

“Laura and her assistant Steph were amazing with my 18 month olds first ever visit to the dentist. They were so calm, patient and playful making it really easy for both of us. Laura gave me lots of information on what to look out for going forward too which really helped.”

Speaking to patients, it’s clear that the process at Smile Design is highly valued. The team takes time to explain all available treatment options, giving patients insights into what’s possible for their case.

We also liked that they provided patients with before-and-after photos to help them visualise their potential outcomes.

There are a wide range of cosmetic procedures here, including teeth whitening and veneers. But what sets them apart is that they also offer restorative treatments like dental implants. This provides patients with the option of doing a full smile makeover,

Patient care is also solid, with their gentle approach and sedation techniques. Our team also finds their staff very personable, easily making clients feel at ease.

We just want to note that their services aren’t the most affordable in the city. There are certain services here, like veneers, that cost more than in other clinics.

But if you want that exclusive attention and top-notch care, the price is worth paying for.

Pros

  • Comprehensive range of services
  • Uses the latest dental tech and equipment
  • Highly personalised patient experience
  • Uses advanced sedation techniques
  • Includes before-and-after photos in consultations
  • Convenient payment options (e.g. Q Card, Zip Card)

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Occasional long wait times

Great to be around

“I have had a great relationship with Dr Ray since 2010 (8 years of age) and every time I’m in, he is both good as a practitioner and great to be around. They also have a great system of booking and sending reminders in the fortnight leading up to the appointment.”

Goes beyond expectations

“Thoroughly impressed beyond expectations as this was my second visit for routine check up. I had a filling done and some dental work on front teeth. The team are professional, highly informative and caring. I felt my entire experience from beginning to end was thoughtful and educational too. No pain at all, and I am so pleased with the results. Wow!!”
