5 Best Dog Walking Services in Christchurch to Have on Speed Dial
I can still vividly recall my overconfident self walking my dog, swaggering through the neighbourhood with a leash in one hand and a skateboard in the other.
One minute I’m cruising along. The next, I’m eating pavement. It’s moments like those that teach you life’s deeper truths: a seasoned dog walker is not just an ‘extra’—they’re as essential as the ‘beware of dogs’ sign on your cantankerous neighbour’s fence.
And so, I’ve given up on pretending to be a dog-walking pro and turned to my fellow pet owners for recommendations.
After countless talks and much research, these are the dog-walking services that made it onto my list of the very best in Christchurch.
How much does it cost to hire a dog walker in Christchurch?
If you are planning on hiring a dog walker in Christchurch, expect to spend at least 20 NZD per 30-minute dog walk. This price is just an estimate and varies depending on the type of dog walk, how long, and how many dogs.
How I Chose
1. Mad About Dogs

Mad About Dogs has built a strong reputation among Christchurch pet parents, thanks largely to founder Megan Perry’s expertise. With qualifications in pet first aid, veterinary nursing, and zoology, Megan ensures every walk is both fun and safe.
The small group sizes mean each dog gets plenty of attention while enjoying a variety of dog-friendly locations. Daily photos and videos are a big hit, letting you see exactly what your pup gets up to.
Many dog owners also appreciate the well-ventilated transport and individual cages, which ensure safety and comfort.
The focus on building confidence and social skills is another huge plus, making it more than just a walk but a developmental experience for your dog.
However, some have noted that the service can get booked up quickly, so it’s wise to plan ahead.

- Each dog gets ample attention
- Constantly updates owners with photos and videos
- Well-ventilated transport

They are picked up & delivered safely home twice a week
“Our 2 boys Gino & Ramsay have the most amazing adventures with Megan. She adores our boys & they adore her!. They are picked up & delivered safely home twice a week. Having the dogs walked while having had 2 knee surgeries has been the best thing we did. Our boys are confident & walk so well off lead. Cannot recommend Mad About Dogs high enough😊”

Megan has built her confidence with other dogs.
“We could not recommend Megan from Mad About Dogs enough. Her passion and professionalism made us trust her with our little Luna right from the start. Megan is intelligent, knowledgeable and has a genuine passion for dogs. Our young terrier was timid before going on weekly walks with Megan but with calmness, perseverance and care, Megan has built her confidence with other dogs. Luna absolutely adores Megan and waits with excitement for her to arrive. Mad About Dogs has benefited our lifestyle significantly. It gives me peace of mind to know our fur baby has fun and gets stimulated through the work week. We love following Megan’s pupdates to see all the wonderful adventures she takes her furry friends on.”
2. Doggy Dolittle Dog Walking

Doggy Dolittle Dog Walking has left quite an impression on many dog owners. What stands out most is Charles Little’s (the head of Doggy Dolittle) personal touch and years of experience.
Many pet parents rave about the well-organised group adventures that he provides for their pups to get ample socialisation and exercise. Dogs come back happy and exhausted, which is always a good sign.
Many pet parents also love that he includes photos on his Facebook page so they can see their pup having a blast.
Sure, some owners I spoke to mentioned that individual walks could be a bit pricey compared to group outings. But one-on-one attention is worth every penny for those with older or more introverted dogs.
Pros
- Experienced walker
- Socialisation opportunities
- Regular photo updates
Cons
- The cost of individual walks is a bit pricy

Arya liked him straight away and had no issues leaving for her walks
“Charles was our dog walker whilst getting settled into Christchurch. He came to meet us before starting the pack walks twice a week. Arya liked him straight away and had no issues leaving for her walks with him (which she has had previous issues with). The mention of his name she was up at the door waiting for him. Great to see lots of photos and videos from her walks and always came back tired! Would highly recommend!”
You can really tell Charles takes care of the dogs as if they were his own
“Our active Border Collie loves his days walking with the pack. Honestly the best priced dog walker out there for TWO HOURS adventure time. We love seeing the photo updates with all the dogs’ tails in the air happily wagging. You can really tell Charles takes care of the dogs as if they were his own, he understands their needs and personalities to make it a fun adventure for all. We were very impressed with the thoughtfulness and care Charles has for our dog, by removing his harness at the end of the adventure so he’s not sitting in a wet harness all afternoon, and how he spent some extra time at the beginning to make our dog feel comfortable, now our dog just runs off, tail wagging, tongue out and not a second glance back to us at home when Charles arrives to collect him for his adventure. I recommend Doggy Dolittle to everyone I come across! He was actually recommend to us by someone we met at a dog park that has seen him on his adventure walks and thought he was the best dog walker they’ve come across – so from one stranger to another, book your dog in now!”

Some pet parents have noted that sometimes she lags in communication, but overall, she’s a trustworthy dog walker.

There is no one else we can say we fully trust
“We have had Superior Pet Care look after our two precious indoor cats several times now for long and short care. I highly recommend Kirsten. Our fur babies are our life and Kirsten is very respectful and recognizes that and commits herself to making sure our babies are well looked after. There is no one else we can say we fully trust.”
Kirsten has been very professional right from day 1
“Superior pet care has walked my dog Max since February 2017. Kirsten takes Max out for 4 walks a week. I dont know which Max loves more, Kirsten? or socializing with all his other buddy’s on the various walks in different locations he gets taken? It would be a close one I’d say! Kirsten has been very professional right from day 1, when she asked could she join me and Max on a brief walk so she could assess Max’s behavior before walking him herself and/or introducing him to any of the other dogs. This professionalism has then continued through every walk Max gets. From safe transport to the locations she takes the dogs, to the advice she gives from her experience with animals, to the attention she pays to Max’s personality and health, notifying me if she notices anything unusual or concerning.”
