Auckland has a bunch of ear-piercing studios, and my team and I have checked out a few to help you figure out the best spots. We’re here to break down the pros and cons so you can skip the stress of choosing where to go.

1. Adorn Body Piercing – Botany

When my team and I heard that Adorn Body Piercing offers free consultations and fittings, we had to check them out. This is a great feature if you’re not sure about what you want because they’ll give you personalized advice before you go ahead. 

They also offer free downsize fittings and piercing checks for piercings done at their shop. One client even mentioned that they helped her create a custom mix of piercings that worked with her style and anatomy.

What really stood out to us was how professional their team is. They’re certified in First Aid and have training in Bloodborne Pathogens, making the whole piercing experience much safer.

The prices are also pretty reasonable. The basic jewelry is already included in the cost and there aren’t any hidden fees. 

That said, some people have mentioned that booking an appointment can be tricky, especially since you have to go online to make one. Some have also felt a bit frustrated when staff direct them to the website, even when the shop isn’t busy.

2. Metal Magic Piercings

Metal Magic Piercings is the first piercing studio in Auckland to join the Auckland University of Technology’s Piercing Professionals (AUPP). This means they follow high safety standards, and we definitely witnessed that during our visit. 

We even talked to a client with sensitive skin who really appreciated how they use implant-grade jewelry, which is safe for ear piercings—something not all places offer. 

Their pricing is slightly higher than that of other shops in the area. If you’re on a tight budget, you could consider other options. 

On the bright side, their piercers are super skilled and professional. One of our researchers even got an ear piercing while we were there, and she was completely at ease throughout the whole process. It really shows how they make their space comfortable for their customers.

3. Shane Johnston Fine Piercing

During our visit to Shane Johnston Fine Piercing, one thing that really stood out was how much they focus on safety and hygiene. They stick to strict cleaning protocols to make sure everything stays safe, which was pretty comforting for us.

When one of our researchers decided to get his ears pierced, the team really took the time to ask about his style and preferences. This made the whole experience feel personal and tailored just for him.

Shane Johnston runs the shop, and the team is made up of experienced piercers who see piercing as both an art and a science. They know how factors like age and skin type can affect how a piercing heals, so they make sure to get the best result for each person.

Besides piercings, they also offer some high-quality jewelry, including exclusive designs made from good materials. This not only looks great but helps with the durability and safety of the piercings.

However, we did hear from a few past customers that some of the staff weren’t exactly the friendliest. We didn’t experience that ourselves, but it’s worth mentioning.

4. Keen on Piercing – Newmarket

Keen on Piercing in Newmarket is a great choice if you’re looking to get a piercing. We stopped by recently, and the experience left a solid impression. 

The piercers are knowledgeable and friendly. They take the time to guide you through every step of the process so you feel comfortable.

One thing that stood out is how they offer hypoallergenic jewelry for kids’ first piercings. This level of care isn’t something you see everywhere. 

They also keep things pretty affordable. They have deals like $20 Sundays for select piercings and occasional “$13 Piercings” events.

These are amazing opportunities, but they do come with a trade-off—appointments can be tricky to book. Wait times also tend to spike during the promotions. It’s a bit of a hassle if you’re looking for a quick turnaround.

On the positive side, the studio has a really welcoming vibe. Most of all, we appreciate that they also provide aftercare tips to help your piercing heal properly.

The best piercing experience I’ve had!

“I got a contra conch ear piercing with my friend here yesterday and it was the best piercing experience I’ve had! I was a bit nervous because my ears tend to be a bit hard to heal, especially when it comes to cartilage piercings. however it’s the next day and it feels just as good as my other 6 month old hidden helix. it doesn’t hurt unless touched or when being cleaned (obviously), it isn’t red and it’s hardly swollen. 100% recommend!”

5. Sagi Jewels

Sagi Jewels has been around since 2014, and it’s clear they’ve put a lot of care into their services. They have managed to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all customers.

We’ve heard that their team is professional and gentle. Former customers we talked to have mentioned how safe and comfortable they felt during their visits, and we’d have to agree based on our experience. 

We were also really impressed by their hygiene. The space was clean when we visited, and they took extra care to make sure the piercing process was hygienic too.

The staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions, which was really helpful. They use high-quality materials like sterling silver and 22k gold for their jewelry, which not only looks great but is made to last. 

Customers can also pick out unique earrings right after getting pierced, making it feel like a special experience. 

The only thing is that some people mentioned that the pricing for piercings and jewelry wasn’t always clear upfront, leading to a bit of confusion about the total cost.
