Those little DIY lash kits you see in the store can be little devils if you’re a newbie to the lash extension world. 

Not so long ago, a friend of mine rambled about her experience of trying to do lashes herself after watching a tutorial on TikTok. 

Either she paid no attention to the TikTok or had beginner’s bad luck, but her left eye looked like it was winking (and not in a cute way). Her right eye was, well, lopsided to say the least. 

Experiences like hers—the kind that leave you questioning such beauty trends—are exactly what led me to gather the rest of the Top Reviews writing team to look into the best eyelash extension places in Dunedin. Here are the ones we found that will help you get lash perfection.

1. Beauty Mirror

We appreciate that Beauty Mirror listens to what people want. Many people told us about how the technicians spent a good 15 minutes just discussing different lengths and curls to match their features and daily makeup routine. 

It’s also impressive how they’re able to enhance lashes without making them look over the top—very subtle, classy, and demure.

Clients we talked to reported getting around 3-4 weeks out of their full sets with proper aftercare. That kind of longevity means you’re getting solid value without the hassle of frequent refills, which we definitely like.

However, there’s some inconsistency when it comes to the technicians’ skills. Some clients mentioned that their lashes felt a bit clumpy, shed too soon, or were stuck together—not exactly ideal.

On a brighter note, we really love how clean the salon is. We were impressed by how meticulously the tools were cleaned and their single-use applicators. 

We also like how seriously they take safety. Many customers appreciated that their lash technicians wore gloves throughout the entire process.

2. Vish Beauty Bar

Vish Beauty Bar stood out to us for the range of lash extension sets they offer. Whether you’re after a subtle everyday look with their “Natural Set” (50-60 lashes per eye) or want to go full glam with their “Glamorous Set” (80-100 lashes per eye), they have you covered. 

In all the pictures we’ve seen, we love how those who got the “Natural Set” look like they just had really good mascara on. As for their “Glamorous Sets, we like the dramatic volume—people love how full and long they are.

Even with their more voluminous options, we like that Vish Beauty Bar manages to create a look that still feels relatively natural and not too heavy on the eyelids. 

The only thing we don’t love is how short their lashes last. Several people complained about their lashes starting to shed noticeably after about a week and a half.

Liv of Enhanced By Liv has an eye for detail and precision—clients we’ve talked to consistently praised how she keeps their enhanced lashes looking natural.

One of the things we really like is how she helps maintain lashes at a subtle length and curl. This approach makes everyday makeup routines quicker and easier.

When it comes to hybrid lash extensions, Liv is especially attentive. She carefully adjusts the weight as needed to ensure maximum comfort, which many of her clients really appreciate.

But it’s her volume lash extensions that truly captured our hearts. We like how she keeps the lashes highly customisable, allowing you to choose the level of volume and intensity you desire. They’re bold and glamorous even without mascara. Best of all, they last up to two weeks.

However, since Liv is practically the only one doing lashes in the studio, appointments can come with a bit of a wait—sometimes up to an hour.

4. Pure Beauty Dunedin

Pure Beauty is one of the best spots in Dunedin for a pampering session, mainly because of their eyelash extensions.

We’re really impressed with how meticulous they are with their lash work, making sure there are no stray lashes in sight. Regular customers we talked to also mentioned how lightweight the extensions feel, with no heaviness on the eyelids. 

Out of all the looks we’ve seen, our favourite here is their volume eyelash extensions. They deliver a bold, dramatic look that really opens up the eyes. 

Their hybrid extensions are also impressive. Customers mentioned that these lashes provided just the right amount of drama without being overwhelming. 

That said, a few people mentioned their lashes didn’t last as long as expected. Some even said theirs started shedding after just a week.

Still, we appreciate the kindness of the staff and their willingness to redo any lashes that are falling off within a few days.

5. Beauteholic Beauty Studio

We love how the lash aestheticians at Beauteholic Beauty Studio are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. They really listen carefully to understand the exact look each client wants.

We recommend their classic lash extensions for those who prefer something subtle. In all the photos we’ve seen, the application looks flawless. We appreciate how each lash is perfectly aligned to create that clean, effortless look.

Hybrid lashes, on the other hand, are for those seeking a bit more flair. Customers love that they can get the fuller look without being too dramatic. The lashes give just enough drama for everyday wear.

We also appreciate that they offer Russian volume lashes, which we absolutely love for their wispy, voluminous look. Even at the fullest volume, the lashes are applied with precision and care to minimise the risk of damage.

One downside, however, is the lash extension removal process. Several people told us it was a bit tedious and, in some cases, took over an hour to be done.
