Best Gift Baskets in Wellington

Make someone’s day with the 6 best gift baskets in Wellington

Ever heard of the phrase “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”? If you have, well, the phrase doesn’t apply to someone like me who loves to surprise people with a basket full of as many thoughtful gift ideas as possible.

Whoever invented gift baskets is a genius. Gift basket stores essentially do the hard work for me, and all I have to do is pick and pay!

So, if you’re looking to surprise a loved one, a friend, or a date, here are the best stores selling gift baskets in Wellington!

How I Picked

Affordability: I chose gift basket stores that offer options ranging between $50 and $100. I also included stores that offer luxury or gourmet baskets below $200 (although the final bill will depend on the add-ons of your choosing!).
Range of Gift Basket Options: I selected shops that offer a myriad of basket options like baskets with bouquets, toys, alcoholic drinks, gourmet snacks, and bath essentials.
Delivery Services: I made sure to include shops that deliver gift baskets to Wellington, surrounding towns, and rural communities. I also made sure to include stores that offer flat delivery fees or free deliveries with minimum value requirements.
Customer Service: I narrowed down shops that have great after-sales service, reply to customers promptly, and make the ordering process simple and easy (especially for custom orders).

Pros

  • Wide range of affordable gift basket options
  • Specialises in custom gift baskets (Designer’s Choice)

Cons

  • The actual product can look different from the photos
  • Slow response from customer service

Since 2004, Best of the Bunch has been crafting and delivering gift baskets in Wellington and neighbouring regions.

They specialise in custom gift baskets, providing a Designer’s Choice option where I detail my budget and preferences for a unique curation.

For my sister’s birthday a few months back, I requested a non-perishable dessert basket with a budget of $180. I was pleasantly surprised to find their custom baskets start at just $80, allowing for both quality and affordability.

Upon its arrival at my sister’s, my sister sent me a photo of the basket and it was filled to the brim with a 20-piece box of chocolates, about six luxury Swiss chocolate bars, peanut clusters, Italian biscuits, honey, nougat, syrups, and hot chocolate mixes.

She was delighted to discover fresh fruits included in the basket, despite my request to exclude perishable items. Nevertheless, seeing my sister’s happiness made me equally pleased!

Pros

  • Specialises in artisanal and locally sourced honey gift baskets
  • Offers free shipping for orders above $75

Cons

  • Limited gift basket variety
  • Pricey

For anyone who loves 100% New Zealand manuka honey, a gift basket from Bee Fresh Farms is something to look into. I order them for myself as a treat now and then, even though they cost me a lot.

I’m also an avid supporter of bee farms and the environment, so buying gift baskets from Bee Fresh Farms is one way I can extend my support, albeit financially.

I usually order The Village Grocer Gift Box No. 5 which contains natural manuka honey, fruit paste, chickpea crackers, balsamic vinegar, lozenges, fruit spreads, smoked salt, and beeswax paper.

All items are gourmet and locally sourced, justifying the high price tag. Though not the largest basket for its price, I’m willing to splurge to support local businesses.

It cost me $150 but I got my order delivered for free since Bee Fresh Farms offers free shipping for orders above $75!

Pros

  • Specialises in floral gift baskets
  • Offers delivery services to hospitals

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer delivery services to rural areas
  • Pricey

When my brother’s wife recently gave birth, I sent them a baby gift basket from Juliette Florist, a flower and gift store that offers hospital deliveries in Wellington.

Since I couldn’t personally deliver the basket, I opted to place an order with them.

The Baby Hamper I ordered contained hypoallergenic and baby-safe soap, lotion, body wash, hand-knitted booties, a stuffed toy, soft towels, a baby shirt, and a fresh bouquet of flowers.

I spent $140 on it, which was steep, but the contents along with the flowers made it worthwhile. Their gift basket options all hover around $100, so if that’s beyond your budget, you might opt for one without the flowers.

Juliette Florist provides hospital deliveries but unfortunately doesn’t cover rural areas (disappointing, I know). Nonetheless, my brother and his wife were deeply touched by the thoughtful gift, and I’m grateful to have discovered Juliette Florist for the occasion!

Pros

  • Offers weekly instalment payment plans
  • Charges a $10 flat delivery fee to all locations in New Zealand (including rural areas)

Cons

  • No same-day deliveries
  • Saturday deliveries are only available to North Island areas

I’ve been a loyal supporter of The Pressie Box for years, especially for their gourmet gift baskets that always impress my family members. Their extensive range includes artisanal food hampers and options with alcohol, catering to diverse tastes.

I once ordered the Gourmet Treats from around New Zealand basket that contained goodies from local businesses like Telegraph Hill olives, cheeses from Over the Moon Dairy Company, Molly Woppy cookies, and Mother Earth cashews.

I love how you can choose themed gift baskets because it makes it easier to decide which basket to get for the occasion.

The box cost me $136 but I paid in weekly instalments. Plus, their delivery fee was a flat $10 all over New Zealand (a huge steal for a $136 basket)!.

It was just too bad they couldn’t do same-day deliveries. The pictures they have on their online store were so enticing!

Pros

  • Offers same-day deliveries
  • Affordable delivery fee within Wellington

Cons

  • Limited gift basket variety
  • Some wrong orders

My mother and I ordered gift baskets from The Wild Flower for my aunt’s housewarming after her move from Auckland to Wellington. They were one of the few that could dispatch our orders the same day, which was great!

We chose the Luxury Gift Box set for my aunt, featuring a soy candle, hand and body lotion, handmade bonbons, hot chocolate, bath bombs, and a bag of rose petals. While

The Wild Flower had limited options, the one we selected offered good value for its price. We paid $180 for the box, with an additional $10 for delivery.

Ordered before 3:00 pm on a weekday, they dispatched it the same day. My aunt was pleasantly surprised and delighted by the warm welcome!

However, upon receiving the basket, we discovered they had sent the wrong soy candle scent. Despite the minor error, my aunt didn’t seem to mind.
