OPERATING HOURSMonday to Thursday: 9 AM - 5 PM

Friday: 9 AM - 4:30 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

We really liked how Total Life don’t just hand out the same policy to everyone. Their advisers take the time to really get to know each person’s situation and goals, so the insurance actually fits what they need.

It was also smart that they don’t treat life insurance like it’s separate from the rest of your money. They look at the bigger picture—the savings, retirement, and protection—so the insurance works well with your overall financial plans.

Clients also mentioned to us that their team is flexible about when and where they meet. It’s great for people who can’t always pop into an office during regular hours.

On the downside, their team is a mix of seasonal pros and newer advisers. That’s good for fresh ideas, but it means the experience you get might vary a bit depending on who you work with.

If your case is complicated, it’s worth checking who’ll be handling it.

Pros

  • Policies tailored to individual needs
  • Life insurance fits into a bigger financial plan
  • Flexible meeting times and locations
  • Good customer service

Cons

  • Experience level varies by adviser

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Woodward Insurance Brokers Ltd is independent, so you won’t have to be stuck with one insurance company’s options. They have access to over 40 different providers, and they will really compare policies to help you find the best fit.

Clients said they take their time to understand your life situations before recommending anything, which we really appreciated. We also have to give them credit since they’re great at breaking things down in plain English.

They do offer ongoing support, especially when life changes, like if you got married or had kids. But we noticed in some of the feedback that the claims process can sometimes be slow.

We also found out that they also look at your whole financial life, including KiwiSaver and long-term planning. That’s awesome if you’re looking for advice that goes beyond just one policy.

But if you’re in a rush and just want a quick note, it might feel like a longer conversation than you bargained for.

Pros

  • Access to 40 insurance providers
  • Personalised service
  • Clear communication
  • Ongoing support
  • Holistic financial advice

Cons

  • A few reports about slow claims process
  • Longer process overall

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 8:30 AM - 5 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Even if IBAL is an independent broker, they’ve been in the business for over 20 years and have gained a solid reputation. People seem to trust them, so we decided to take a closer look.

Since they’re not tied to one insurance company, they can shop around and find the best life insurance policy for each of their client.

They also don’t just throw a few policy options at you. Clients said their team really learned about their life situations before recommending anything. It’s helpful when you’re deciding between things like term life insurance, trauma cover, and such.

They have a pretty full lineup with their life insurance. They have term life, permanent life, trauma cover, and even options that don’t require a medical exam if you want something quicker and simpler.

That said, their process might not be ideal for everyone. If you’re looking for a quick online or just want to grab a basic policy in a few clicks, their in-depth face-to-face style might feel a bit slow.

A few people mentioned that initial meetings took a bit longer than expected. But honestly, that’s not always a bad thing if it means you’re getting the right coverage.

Also, while IBAL offers regular policy reviews, it seems like it’s usually up to the client to reach out and schedule those. So if your situation changes, you’ll want to be proactive and check in to make sure your coverage still fits.

Pros

  • Compares multiple providers
  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Personalised advice
  • Wide range of life insurance products
  • Knowledgeable and experienced team

Cons

  • Initial consultations can be time-consuming
  • Policy reviews aren’t always automatic

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 8:30 AM - 5 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

We really like how involved the brokers are at Gallagher Insurance. They don’t just help you set up a policy and disappear. According to their past clients, the team check in on them over time.

If you get married, buy a house, or switch jobs, this is very beneficial to make sure your life insurance still fits your situation.

They also handle life and health cover for businesses, which is great for employers who want to offer benefits to their teams. It’s a nice touch that goes beyond just individual policies.

We aren’t totally sure how flexible those group plans are for small businesses, though. It might be worth checking if you’re a smaller team.

As for the life insurance options themselves, they cover a lot. We particularly found it impressive that their trauma cover includes around 45 different conditions, which is more than many other providers offer.

That said, some of their past clients have complained about delayed responses from claims adjusters and difficulty in getting updates on claims status.

Pros

  • Proactive broker support
  • Wide range of coverage
  • Strong trauma over
  • Business coverage available

Cons

  • A few reports of slow communication during claims

5. Aon

CONTACT DETAILS+64 3 211 2080
OPERATING HOURSMonday to Thursday: 8:30 AM - 5 PM

Friday: 8:30 AM - 4 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

If you want advice that’s based on your needs, Aon is a good choice. They’re not tied to just one insurance company, so they can look at a range of providers on what’s best for you.

They also go pretty deep with their advice. They take the time to really listen to your story to understand your situation.

Some people even mentioned they left the meeting with Aon feeling more confident about what they were signing up for. And that’s very important because life insurance can feel super confusing at first.

Just remember that they’re more traditional. You might find yourself having lots of one-on-one conversations at first. It’s great if you like having a real person explain things clearly.

However, if you’re after instant online quotes or want everything done digitally in five minutes, this might feel a bit slower.

It also stood out to us how involved they are even after the policy is set up. If something happens and you need to make a claim, they help guide you through the process and speak to the insurer on your behalf.

A few clients mentioned this helped take a huge weight off their shoulders during tough times.

Pros

  • Unbiased advice
  • Personalised approach
  • Claims support
  • Clear explanations

Cons

  • Time-consuming process
