The 5 Best Life Insurance Providers in Auckland That’ll Secure Your Future

  • Policy Options: We chose providers that offer different types of life insurance, whether it’s short-term or long-term, so you can choose what works best for you.
  • Premium Costs: We looked at how much you’ll pay each month or year and selected providers with fair prices for different ages and health situations.
  • Coverage Amount: We checked how much money the policy will pay out. We made sure it's enough to help your family with things like bills, debt, or everyday living.
  • Claim Process: We prioritized providers that make it easy to file a claim and are known for paying out quickly without too much hassle. We had to speak to some clients to review this.
  • Customer Service: By interviewing clients, we assessed companies that are easy to contact, friendly, and helpful when you have questions or need support.

When my mother passed away, we were heartbroken, but also deeply moved by how she had planned ahead.

Thanks to her life insurance, she didn’t leave us with financial worries. Even after she was gone, she made sure we were taken care of. That kind of peace of mind is priceless.

If you’re thinking about getting life insurance, Auckland has plenty of providers to choose from. The real challenge is finding a provider that gives you the same sense of security my family felt. One that fits your needs and gives you confidence in the future.

My team and I did the research to help make that choice easier for you. Keep reading to discover which providers stood out and why.

How much do life insurance services cost in Auckland?

Life insurance in Auckland usually costs NZD $20 to  NZD $100+ per month. The price depends on things like your age, health, how much coverage you want, and which company you choose.

CONTACT DETAILS+64 800 111 679
OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 9 AM - 6 PM

We really like that with Momentum Life, you deal directly with their local team. There are no brokers or middlemen, so it cuts out a lot of the back-and-forth and feels more personal.

This kind of support can be a big help when you’re dealing with something as sensitive as life or funeral insurance. Clients have also said their staff is very helpful and accommodating to all their needs, so it’s a plus.

They also keep things simple, offering just two types of insurance, which are life and funeral.

It’s actually refreshing, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t want to spend ages trying to figure out all the fine print. Their focus seems to be on making their things easy to understand.

Most of the clients we spoke to also said their claims process is fast and flexible. There’s even an option for an early funeral payment after two years, which we think shows they’ve really considered the emotional side of things, not just paperwork.

That said, the simplicity might not suit everyone. If you’re looking for lots of extra options or highly custom covers, you might find Momentum a bit too limited.

Pros

  • Direct local service
  • Personalized support
  • Helpful staff
  • Simple and clear products
  • Fast and flexible claim process
  • Advanced funeral payment options

Cons

  • Limited product range
  • Not ideal for complex needs

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 9 AM - 4:30 PM

Saturday to Sunday: Closed

AIL of New Zealand doesn’t charge extra just because someone has a risky job. A lot of insurance agencies will increase your premiums if you work in construction, transport, or anything considered “dangerous.” They don’t do that, though.

For us, it makes their plans feel fairer and more accessible for people in all kinds of work.

We also liked that their premiums stay fixed. Your rates don’t go up as you get older, and they don’t increase if you make a claim. It’s a plus since most insurers raise rates over time.

For Public Service Association (PSA) members, their policies come with a few perks. There’s a free accidental death benefit, which is $1,500 for you and smaller amounts for your spouse and kids.

We also noticed that their coverage is more flexible than a lot of basic life insurance options. Their policies can include protection while traveling overseas and even cover sports injuries.

That said, some people said it can take a while to hear back from those agents, and responses aren’t always consistent. It’s something worth considering.

Pros

  • No extra cost for risky jobs
  • Fixed premiums
  • Extra perks for PSA members
  • Flexible coverage

Cons

  • A few reports about slow or inconsistent communication

One thing that stood out to us about LiveLife Insurance is how personal their service seems. Clients say they really try to understand your personal situation, like if you’re raising a family or running a business. They build a plan that fits your life.

Their life insurance gives your family a lump sum payout if you pass away or are diagnosed with a terminal illness, given that you only have less than 12 months to live.

Your loved ones can use this money for anything, like paying off the mortgage, covering funeral costs, or just helping with everyday living expenses.

We also like that terminal illness cover is included by default. Usually, not every insurer does this. If you’re seriously ill, the money can be paid out early, giving you and your family some breathing room during a tough time.

You also get a choice on how you want to pay your premiums. If you choose level premiums, your payments stay the same as you get older. Or you can go with stepped premiums. This starts off cheaper but increases over time.

That said, if you want to see a fixed price right away, you probably won’t find it here. You’ll need to call them because the pricing is made just for you.

This can be good since it’s personalized, but if you want to know the cost quickly or plan ahead, it might take some time and effort first.

Pros

  • Personalized plans
  • Lump sum payout on death or terminal illness
  • Terminal illness cover included by default
  • Flexible premium options

Cons

  • Getting pricing info can take time

Lifestyle Cover NZ Limited offers life insurance as part of a full personal risk insurance plan.

That means, it’s not just about protecting your family if you pass away. The insurance can include cover for terminal illness, total and permanent disability, and even mortgage protection. This makes it easier to manage all your insurance needs in one place.

We also liked that they don’t just sell you a standard policy. They take the time to understand your life situation. Then they compare different insurance plans from all over New Zealand to find the one that fits you best.

One feature that also impressed us was their Lifestyle Cover Dashboard. It’s a handy online tool that shows all your insurance policies in one place. This helps you see what you’re covered for, spot any gaps, and keep track of everything.

On top of the usual life and health-related cover, it’s good to see that they also include protection in case you lose your job unexpectedly. That kind of support can be really helpful during tough times.

However, one thing to watch out for is how their premiums can change over time. While their prices are generally competitive, a few people mentioned that it’s not always clear when or why the costs might go up.

Pros

  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Tailored advice
  • Helpful online dashboard
  • Job loss cover

Cons

  • A few reports about unclear premium changes

We can’t help but notice that JIC Insurance’s target audience may be Auckland’s Chinese-speaking community.

Their entire service can be done in Mandarin. This includes not only the consultation, but also applying for insurance, managing your policy, and even making the claim.

We also found that their team is very experienced. Some of their advisors are registered financial experts and even members of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), which is a sign they’re top performers in the industry.

Clients also said they don’t usually sell a standard package. They understand their client’s personal situation and then recommend the right type of insurance for them.

They offer a wide range of insurance products, too. You’ll find the usual ones here, like life insurance, trauma cover, and total permanent disability cover.

But what impressed us is that they also have health insurance and even mechanical breakdown insurance for your car. This is especially useful if you own a European or high-end car that could cost a lot to repair.

That said, we’ve heard from some of their past clients that they could be difficult to contact sometimes.

Pros

  • Mandarin-speaking service
  • Highly experienced advisors
  • Personalized insurance plans
  • Wide range of insurance products

Cons

  • Hard to contact at times
