Saturday to Sunday: 10 AM - 4 PM

Piano Traders Ltd is a family-owned business with over 70 years of experience in the music world. That kind of history not only shows they’re serious about quality and service but also gives it a nice personal vibe that you don’t often find in bigger corporate stores.

When my team and I checked out their place, we were super impressed by the selection they had. Beyond pianos, they also have all the gear that goes with them.

They’ve got everything from brand-new acoustic pianos to some amazing pre-loved ones, including both grand and upright models. We even got to listen to a few of the pre-loved pianos, and the sound was so rich and authentic.

And let me tell you about their sheet music collection. They had everything from beginner-friendly pieces to more advanced stuff for experienced musicians.

We had a great time exploring the shop, but it’s worth mentioning that one former customer we spoke with had a not-so-great experience.

She mentioned that when she visited, the staff at the counter weren’t very helpful with her questions. It’s a bit of a bummer since we really enjoyed our visit, but it sounds like that’s something they might want to work on.

Pros

  • Family owned-heritage
  • New and pre-loved selection
  • Authentic sound
  • Extensive music sheet collection

Cons

  • A few reports of unhelpful staff

Piano is beautifully tuned and in excellent condition

“I recently purchased a piano from Piano Traders about a month ago, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, guiding me through the selection process with patience and expertise. The delivery was prompt and smooth, and the piano itself is fantastic—beautifully tuned and in excellent condition.”

What sets Auckland Used Piano Centre (AUPC) apart is the dynamic duo behind the operation—Glenn Easley and Anthony Shaw. With over 65 years of experience between them, these guys really know their pianos.

They’ve tuned and serviced instruments for swanky venues and renowned pianists all over the globe, so you’re definitely in good hands when you’re searching for your next piano.

We got to chat with them about their adventures hunting pianos overseas. They’re really selective—only about 5% of the pianos they evaluate earn the ‘A1’ grade. So when you buy from AUPC, you know you’re getting a piano that looks fantastic and sounds incredible.

Some of the customers we talked to also loved their personalized service. Before any piano makes its way to you, Glenn and Anthony give it the royal treatment with thorough tuning, voicing, and regulation.

Plus, their after-sales service is top-notch. You won’t be left hanging after your purchase, which is such a refreshing change compared to many other retailers.

Sure, their prices might be a bit higher, but it’s totally worth it considering the care and quality you’re getting.

Pros

  • Expertise
  • High standards
  • Personalized service
  • Comprehensive preparation
  • Strong after-sales support

Cons

  • Higher pricing

They provide many useful insights during this decision-making process

“From my experience, AUPC offers a large selection of pianos in near-new condition at competitive prices. Additionally, the two owners are expert piano technicians with extensive experience in tuning, reconditioning, and rebuilding. My purchasing process spanned over a month and took me three visits to the showroom. Thanks to Anthony for providing many useful insights during this decision-making process. I highly recommend AUPC to anyone in search of a piano.”

It was a very pleasant experience with AUPC

“I have never thought of receiving such a nice and beautiful piano as my 50-year birthday gift. AUPC made this happen. It was a very pleasant experience with AUPC. Anthony was very professional and experienced. He was patient and helped us finally choose the right piano after our two visits with a good ‘value for money’ price. We would definitely have no hesitation in recommending APUC to someone who is looking for a good quality piano with a valued price.”

If you’re into Kawai pianos, KBB Music is definitely the place to check out. They really shine with some amazing models like the Kawai GL20EP and GL30EP, which not only sound great but also look stunning with their high-quality finishes.

During our visit, we had a blast exploring their piano selection. They’ve got everything from fancy grand pianos to upright and digital options, so there’s something for every taste.

Their dedicated piano showroom is a gem. It’s one of the biggest in New Zealand and is such a cool space where you can sit down and try out a bunch of different pianos to find your perfect match.

Now, here’s the downside: while the selection is pretty solid, the customer service could use some work. We found the staff a bit unprofessional and even a little rude at times.

When we asked about discounts, they seemed totally disinterested in chatting with us about it.

And guess what? We’re not the only ones who felt this way—other customers have shared similar experiences.

Pros

  • Wide selection of Kawai pianos
  • Diverse piano options
  • Large piano showroom

Cons

  • Unprofessional staff

Best purchase experience ever

“Best purchase experience ever. I did a lot of research about what digital piano to buy and decided to get a Kawai ES110 but I wanted to check it in person and try the keys. They didn’t have one on display so the girl who was helping me and the guy, opened it for me so I could try it. Both of them have a 10-star service! They were really helpful and I’m really happy with the service and the product. Will absolutely go to this shop every time I need to purchase something.”

They gave us a 3-year warranty period

“Loved it. We bought a piano. They gave us a great customer service. First time bought a piano for our family. Especially for kids. And we didn’t have much knowledge about pianos. The gentleman helped us educate about the pianos and also compared the differences between different pianos. So that helped us to choose what we need. They gave us a 3-year warranty period as well.”

Sly’s Pianos has been a staple in the Auckland music scene since 1914. This long history means they really know their stuff when it comes to pianos, so you can count on them for solid advice on picking the right one.

When one of our researchers was browsing the pianos, the staff went above and beyond to help her find the perfect piano that matched her needs and style.

They carry some seriously high-end brands too, like Fazioli and Pleyel, which are a big deal in the piano world. Fazioli, in particular, is super exclusive and is a favorite among professional pianists, so you know you’re getting quality.

While we were checking out the store, we noticed a Chinese customer. We really appreciated that they offer Mandarin translation to help non-English speakers feel more comfortable.

Just a heads-up, though, this service is only available on Saturdays when one of the staff members who speaks the language is around.

Every piano that leaves Sly’s gets more than 10 hours of careful tuning and voicing, so you can trust that the sound will be spot on.

Just keep in mind that their rates can be a bit higher than some other places. But for that level of service and quality, it might just be worth it!

Pros

  • Established reputation
  • Personalized service
  • Helpful staff
  • High-quality inventory
  • Multilingual support
  • Thorough tuning

Cons

  • Higher pricing

The only piano shop you need to see

“The best piano shop in New Zealand.  Exclusive dealer for Fazioli (best piano in the world).

The only piano shop that offers new pianos as rentals & upkeeps their rentals meticulously.

The only piano shop that still voices pianos to better the sound they produce. The only piano shop you need to see if you are shopping for pianos. Ships around New Zealand. Chinese language friendly.”

Best piano shop in Auckland

“Best piano shop in Auckland. The owner Warren has been fantastic to deal with. He knows the piano inside out and can recommend the best one that suits your needs. Warren is not a business person, he is a piano builder who loves what he does. This is the only place you need to visit for pianos.”
