Ever found yourself clutching the edge of a waxing table, silently questioning your life choices? No? Well, that was my friend when he went in to get a back waxing for the first time, at the urging of his partner. 

His waxing therapist seemed to think “quick” meant “rip and run.” The only “soothing” touch was the tissue and hasty “all done!” as he limped out the door.

After hearing about his horrible experience, the rest of the Top Reviews writing team and I set out to find waxing salons in Christchurch where you can actually walk out the door without the extra pain. Here’s who made it onto our list. 

1. Lovoir Day Spa Christchurch 

We love that Lovoir Day Spa uses top-quality wax because it makes the process as comfortable as possible—especially for first-timers. 

Their commitment to hygiene is also what landed them on our radar. We appreciate that their waxing therapists never re-dip wax spatulas, and all the treatment rooms we’ve seen are spotless. 

The therapists here are also on the ball when it comes to quality customer service. Customers who were nervous about their first Brazilian told us their therapists explained everything before starting, which made them feel a bit more comfortable.

Men’s waxing is also popular at Lovoir, with services like back, chest, and eyebrow waxing. When we talked to some male clients, they said what they appreciated the most was the professional, discreet approach. 

We also love the little touches, like their appointment reminders via email and SMS, and the convenient payment options that include Eftpos and credit cards. 

But their strict 24-hour cancellation policy can catch some people off guard, especially if something comes up last minute.

2. Always Beauty 

Always Beauty has straightforward pricing and a variety of options, from quick touch-ups like upper lip or chin waxing to full body combos and specialized male waxing.

We like how their Brazilian wax is available at a special rate for students ($49 instead of $65)—something many love. They offer a discount without compromising on the quality. 

Men’s waxing is also popular here. They have services like full leg, chest, back, and even beard styling. 

Many of their male clients told us that the staff makes the process less painful by making use of soothing powder and creams right after. 

Others rave about the convenience and speed of appointments. Many of their services can be completed in under half an hour, making them easy to fit into a busy schedule. 

Now, while the salon is efficient, we think they could put a bit more focus on the overall ambiance. Their space is functional, but the atmosphere is not very relaxing.

Acacia Beauty is a favorite among locals for its meticulous approach to waxing and its welcoming, inclusive vibe for both women and men.

We love how clean and comfortable the environment is. There’s soothing music and diffused essential oils, all geared towards helping you relax.

They have a wide range of waxing services for both the face and body, making them perfect for those maintenance waxes.

One of their standout services is the Full Face Wax for women, which finishes with what they call “the ultimate facial workout.” We love this extra pampering touch as it leaves your skin feeling extra soft and smooth.

Acacia is also a top pick for men’s waxing. The staff are known for their professionalism and ability to make male clients feel comfortable, whether it’s for a simple eyebrow shape or a full back and shoulders wax.

That said, we will say their parking lot is quite tight. Having to park down the street is a hassle when rushing to make it to your appointment time.

4. Beauty & Elegance 

Beauty & Elegance lives up to its name, offering a truly elegant and private waxing experience that regulars rave about.

For newcomers, we like that there’s a discount off your first treatment, though you do need to contact the salon directly to book and claim it. 

From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels calm and intentionally private. We think the spaced-out appointments are a smart choice. They create a sense of exclusivity and avoid awkward client cross-over.

That said, it also means they don’t accept walk-ins, so booking ahead is essential.

The salon has two specialized rooms. One is the “Groom Room” for waxing, IPL, and electrolysis (equipped with the latest machines and best-quality products). The other is the “Tranquillity Room,” which boasts a full-sized, electric bed with luxurious bedding.

Both women’s and men’s waxing services are available, from quick facial waxing to full leg or Brazilian. 

Every tool goes through a rigorous four-step sterilizing protocol after every treatment. In our opinion, this sets a high bar for cleanliness and client safety. 

The waxing is also excellent

5. Glowing Goddess Beauty 

Glowing Goddess Beauty has become a go-to for those seeking precise waxing-even those baby hairs are gone. The salon has a comprehensive menu for both face and body waxing, making it easy to get everything done in one visit.

Clients consistently praise their therapists for their skilled gentle waxing, especially with sensitive treatments like brows and Brazilians. 

In our experience, their therapists take time to make sure their customers are comfortable throughout. We appreciate the little touches, like clients before pulling the strips.

Their communication is also excellent. Glowing Goddess sends out appointment reminders 24 and 48 hours in advance via text or email, which many love because they never have to worry about missing an appointment by accident. 

That said, if you have to cancel or reschedule within 48 hours of your appointment, you’re charged 50% of the service fee. 

While we understand that the policy is to protect the business, many clients still wish there was a little more flexibility for unexpected things.
