Since then, I have set out on a mission to find the best massage spots in Rotorua. I did my homework and spoke to others who left these massage places in a state of bliss, not in need of an ice pack.

Atmosphere: When I walk into a massage place, my first impression usually sets the tone for the whole experience. I looked for places with a calming atmosphere—think soothing music, pleasant scents, and a genuinely welcoming vibe. 

Massage Therapists: A good massage really depends on the therapist’s skills. That’s why I picked places that hire certified and experienced professionals. 

Variety: I’m a big fan of variety when it comes to massages. I looked for spots that offer a range of treatments, from hot stone and aromatherapy massages to specialised sports therapies. 

Customer Reviews: I spent a good amount of time checking out and listening to what real people have to say. Positive feedback played a huge role in my decision-making process. 

1. Cosmic Hands Chinese Massage

Cosmic Hands is where you go for a holistic massage that’s all about balancing both body and mind. Plus, the staff are fantastic—friendly, attentive, and professional. They make you feel welcome right from the moment you walk in. 

Their cupping therapy and pregnancy massage are big hits. And if you’re looking for a shared relaxing experience, their couples massage is the way to go.

Several people I spoke to raved about their sports massages. They are great for muscle recovery and preventing injuries.

If you suffer from sciatica, you’ve got to try their sciatic massage. People are saying it’s a game-changer for relieving nerve pain and numbness.

I myself tried the traditional Chinese massage, which was quite unique. My masseuse used acupressure and Tui Na to get energy flowing through my muscles. It eased the pain in my neck and shoulders, for sure. 

The only thing some people didn’t like about their massages is the inconsistent pressure application during the Chinese massage. A few felt the pressure was too heavy, and it caused slight discomfort.

Others who’ve had massages here commented on how skilled the therapists are. They know their stuff when it comes to different massage techniques.

One of my personal faves, though, is their Seva signature massage with essential oils. It just melted away all the stress and made me feel so much better overall. 

I’ve also heard nothing but good things about their hot stone massage. Some of the customers I’ve talked to swear by it for deep relaxation and pain relief.

Seva Day Spa also have a sauna and spa, if that’s your thing. And if you need a good facial treatment, they have options for various skin types and concerns.

Just a heads up: there can be scheduling mishaps sometimes, so it’s good to plan ahead.

“We just had the most blissful couples massage at Seva Day Spa. The ladies were attentive right from the moment we arrived, made us feel comfortable and explained the process to us. Massage Eden is for you if you’re after an affordable yet luxurious massage experience. The moment I walked in, the soothing music and the soft lighting instantly put me in a chill mode. 

I tried their bamboo massage, and it was amazing. Their warm bamboo sticks really worked wonders on my knots. Others I spoke to also rave about their signature fusion massage, a mix of Swedish and deep tissue techniques.

If you’re looking for something different, try their Lomi Lomi massage. With smooth and flowing strokes, the massage provides deep relaxation.

The staff at Massage Eden are both skilled and super friendly. Almost everyone I talked to felt way more relaxed and less tense after their session. 

The only downside I noticed was that you might have to wait a bit for the masseuse at times.

Did the trick and felt like a million dollars 

“We had a 90min couple massage by Nana and Arti to start off our day. Arti did my husband and she must have been good because he took all of 10mins to start snoring. Only waking for his foot scrub, of which he said “felt like they took a layer off to give me new feet.” Nana did mine and I had added on bamboo to roll out the pain in my neck and shoulders, did the trick and felt like a million dollars afterwards.   With the bamboo it wakes up the body so if you’re looking for one to help you sleep go for the foot scrub or aromatherapy or hot stone. Also make sure you check the monthly deals before you book to save some cash. Highly recommend both and will be booking in again next time I’m in town”

Thai Nature Massage & Day Spa is a go-to for genuine Thai massages. The therapists here are incredibly skilled, with top-notch qualifications from leading Thai massage schools. This ensures a high-quality Thai massage that’s pretty hard to find elsewhere.

People I spoke with particularly liked their Thai fusion massage. They said the blend of techniques is perfect for getting rid of tight knots and muscle tensions.

I tried their foot reflexology and I was thoroughly impressed. It really hit all those key pressure points in my feet, leaving me feeling super relaxed and with better circulation.

If you’re into facials, they’ve got some brilliant treatments too. They use Skin Deep Facial Skincare products with New Zealand UMF™ Manuka Honey, which does wonders for the skin. They also offer body scrubs and mud wraps if you’re in the mood for detoxing and rejuvenation.

Sure, the prices might be a tad higher than other spots, but the quality really makes it worth every cent.

Sivilay Thai Massage is headed by Noi Sivilay and Paola, both licenced massage therapists. Trust me, these two bring a high level of skill and authenticity to their work that’s truly exceptional.

People can’t stop raving about Noi and Paola’s kindness and professionalism. And in my experience, they’re particularly good at dealing with knots and injuries. 

What really sets this place apart is the personalised attention and care they give each person. They can really focus on tailoring each massage to fit individual needs. 

One of the best massages I tried here was the Thai hot oil massage. It combines traditional Thai techniques with the warmth of hot oil, leaving you deeply relaxed and relieving muscle tension. 

Their traditional Thai massage is also a customer favourite. It involves deep stretches, acupressure, and rhythmic moves that enhance flexibility and reduce tension. But if you’re having sleep issues, their aromatherapy massage might be a better choice for you.

The only issue is that it can be hard to book a massage at short notice since they have a small team.
